It’s been a long time since the last Mid-Week Motivation, but it is back. Enjoy!

The challenge in running is not to aim at doing the things no one else has done, but to keep doing things anyone could do—but most never will.
~Joe Henderson
in The Complete Book of Running

Feel the flow of your dance and know you are not running for some future reward—the reward is now!
~Fred Rohe
The Zen of Running

Every day gives you an opportunity to improve. With every run, you can try to be better. Not just a better runner, but a better person.
~John “The Penguin” Bingham
The Courage to Start

Whenever you have any bump in the road, whether it’s two weeks or two years, there are so many naysayers. Let it fuel you. Don’t take it personally. Go out and prove them wrong.
~Jenny (Barringer) Simpson
Olympian and American recordholder in the steeplechase

Running in the morning has me appreciate all the choices that come later in the day. The choices I make after running seem healthier, wiser and kinder.
~Deena Kastor

Running puts me in a positive state of mind. I’m constantly getting ideas for stories on the run.
~Pam Oliver
Fox NFL reporter

I like to say, and I truly believe, that every run brings new experiences. You just don’t know what they might be until you actually do the run. That’s one of my major reasons for pushing out the front door as often as I do—the adventure of it all.
~Amby Burfoot
Editor at Large, Runner’s World

If you set a goal for yourself and are able to achieve it, you have won your race. Your goal can be to come in first, to improve your performance, or just finish the race. It’s up to you.
~Dave Scott
U.S. Triathlete

Do the work. Do the analysis. But feel your run. Feel your race. Feel the joy that is running.
~Kara Goucher
American long-distance runner

In the midst of regular life, running is the touchstone that breathes adventure into my soul. I can feel the trail under my feet, the press of the hill, the gallop of the track, the burn of my lungs, the stir of wonder and possibility. Running reminds me that there is more to me than what is readily apparent much of the time. I don’t always need to see it, but oh how I need to know it’s there. Like having an alter ego, or a super-cool super-hero identity.
~Kristin Armstrong
Author and runner

Running has given me the courage to start, the determination to keep trying, and the childlike spirit to have fun along the way. Run often and run long, but never outrun your joy of running.
~Julie Isphording
Marathon winner
